I have an opportunity to buy a Mirage FRX-S15 Sub, 15', 300W amp for less than $400 including shipping. Is the sub worth that, is it a good sub, specs say it gets down to 18htz, down firing, twin rear ported. I would be using this in my home theater, 17'x17' with 18' ceiling. Please respond as fast as possible if you can help me with this decision as buyer is awaiting my reply. Thank you so much for your help.

That sub from Mirage is over 10 yrs old. I've never heard it, but some
of the older Mirage subs were not to good. I owned a PS-12-185,
about 14 yrs ago, and it wasn't very good (very boomy).
I would save up more money and get an HSU VTF3/3:
http://hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-3-mk3.html
or a SVS, eD...etc. Subs have come a long way as far as quality
in plate amps, drivers, etc. Not to discourage you, but if I were
to buy a Mirage sub now, I would get a S-10:

But you would need two of them, because your room is huge.
Hopefully someone who has heard the sub FRX-S15 sub can jump
in here with additional information...my 2 cents, vardo

I don't find anything except the old user manual and the old Mirage flier. No reviews, personal or pro. Something that nobody is talking about is suspect to me. I would pass. Your not too far off (at $400) from getting something new and more capable.

I would try to find something more in the 12' woofer range. I've always felt the larger 15' drivers are more boomy, and not as tight or musical. As Vardo mentioned there are lots of great subs on the market at affordable prices. My room is 30 x 31 x 9, pretty huge, and even the new Axiom EP350v3 does a great job. Of course, I'm running two other subs as well in the room.
